Vedanta will save Rs 1,000 crore in interest costs each year after utilising the entire proceeds from its recent fund raising to repay debt, chief financial officer Ajay Goel said. In its earnings for the June quarter, the company has seen profit surge by more than 50%, while margins are at a seven-quarter high. «In the current fiscal, we will save around ₹750 crore in interest costs, and after that we will have the benefit of ₹1,000 each year,» Goel told ET. Tata Power Company Ltd is scouting for more public-private hydropower projects in Bhutan, Praveer Sinha, chief executive officer, and managing director, said. On Tuesday, Tata Power announced that it has partnered with Druk Green Power Corporation Limited to develop the 600 MW Khorlochhu Hydropower Project in Bhutan with 40% equity investment. The estimated project cost is ₹6,900 crore. The cost of acquiring 40% equity is ₹830 crore, the company added. No Indian governmental or regulatory approvals are required for the transaction. «The hydro project with Bhutan is a game changer. This may be the beginning of many more such projects in Bhutan. We may look at three to four projects over the next five to seven years,» said Sinha. The company said it is working towards large-scale round-the-clock availability of power by harnessing the vast potential of hydropower through the development of the 600 MW Khorlochhu power project and its upcoming 2800 MW pumped hydro storage plants in Maharashtra.

Coal India Ltd and GAIL (India) Ltd have signed a pact for setting up a coal-to-synthetic natural gas plant using surface coal gasification technology in Raniganj area of West Bengal. The plant's capacity is slated at 633.6 million Nm3per hour (Normal cubic metre), which will require 1.9 million tonnes of coal, the coal ministry said in a statement. The partnership of the two state-owned companies is a part of the National Coal Gasification Mission which facilitates utilization of chemical properties of coal.

Power Finance Corporation on Tuesday posted over 20 per cent rise in its consolidated net profit to Rs 7,182.06 crore in June 2024 quarter compared to a year ago, mainly due to higher revenues. The company reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 5,982.14 crore in the quarter ended on June 30, 2023, a regulatory filing showed. Total income rose to Rs 24,736.68 crore in the quarter from Rs 21,017.81 crore in the same period a year ago.

Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958, which gives sweeping powers to the armed forces operating in disturbed areas to search, arrest and open fire if they deem it necessary, has been removed from most parts of the northeast, except a few districts and some police station areas, Parliament was informed on Tuesday. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said there has been a considerable reduction in the number of «disturbed areas» under the AFSPA and the law has been withdrawn completely from Tripura (from May 27, 2015) and Meghalaya (April 1, 2018). The AFSPA has also been withdrawn from all districts except four in Assam, he said. Rai said the AFSPA has been withdrawn gradually in Arunachal Pradesh and it is currently applicable only in three police station areas in Namsai district and three other districts — Tirap, Changlang and Longding.

During Financial Years 2022-23 and 2023-24, Gross GST revenue collection from BCCI was Rs 2,038.55 crore,» Chaudhary said in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. He said the Income Tax department has denied tax exemption to BCCI under Section 11 of the I-T Act, and the matter is now sub judice. Section 11 of the I-T Act deals with charitable institutions.

Indowind Energy on Tuesday announced the successful closure of its rights issue of 2.14 crore equity shares, raising Rs 48.30 crore from its shareholders. The issue attracted bids for 3,40,60,362 shares resulting in oversubscription by 1.59 times, according to a BSE filing. The rights issue was open for subscription from July 26, 2024, to August 5, 2024. The company fixed the price at Rs 22.50 per equity share (including a premium of Rs 12.50 per equity share).

highways authority said on Tuesday it plans to monetise up to $2.4 billion worth of road projects in the current fiscal year ending March through an infrastructure investment trust route as it looks for ways to reduce its massive debt. The state-owned National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has an outstanding debt of 3.2 trillion rupees ($38 billion) and is betting on leveraging assets through infrastructure investment trusts to repay its loans. «With this, the overall debt liability of NHAI is expected to further reduce to around 3 trillion rupees at the end of fiscal 2025,» it said in a statement.

Jalpaiguri: Secretary of the North Bengal Exporters Association, Brij Kishore Prasad, stated on Tuesday that the ongoing protests in Bangladesh have led to significant losses for Indian exporters.
