India's gold industry, with the support of the World Gold Council (WGC), has established a self-regulatory organisation in a bid to increase consumer confidence and restore trust, the WGC said on Tuesday. The newly-formed Indian Association for Gold Excellence and Standards (IAGES) aims to promote fair, transparent and sustainable practices in the bullion industry, along with regulatory compliance, a code of conduct, and an audit framework, said Sachin Jain, CEO of WGC's Indian operations.

Provident Airlines WhatsApp wellness country cover reports ₹10,000 crore GST cloud looms on carriers' radar
Tax Intelligence (DGGI) has sent showcause notices to 10 foreign airlines operating in the country, for alleged non-payment of tax amounting to ₹10,000 crore, officials said. They include British Airways, Lufthansa, Oman Air, Emirates and Singapore Airlines, they said. The notices, sent over the past three days, deal with unpaid tax dues on the import of services by Indian branches from head offices, officials said. Airlines are not covered by a June 26 circular on valuation of supply of import of services by a related person, where the recipient is eligible for full input tax credit, an official said. DGGI sought segregated list This is the circular cited by Infosys following a recent integrated GST demand amounting to Rs 32,000 crore.

WhatsApp MTNL defaults on Rs 422 crore bank loan payments
MTNL has defaulted on bank loan payments worth Rs 422.05 crore, a regulatory filing said on Monday. The total default amount comprises Rs 328.75 crore default on instalment of principal and Rs 93.3 crore towards interest on debt for June and July. According to the details shared by MTNL, it has defaulted on the payment of Rs 155.76 crore on debt raised from Union Bank of India, Rs 140.37 crore from State Bank of India, Rs 40.33 crore from Bank of India, Rs 40.01 crore from Punjab & Sind Bank, Rs 41.54 crore from Punjab National Bank and Rs 4.04 crore from UCO Bank. The telecom firm earlier raised Rs 5,573.52 crore in debt from these banks.

Kerala government on Monday said the families of the tribal communities of Wayanad, which was recently hit by devastating landslides on July 30, were safe and were staying in relief camps arranged by the SC/ST department. Currently, 47 tribal community members, including children, are in various relief camps under the state government. All the tribal families in the region have survived the landslides that hit Mundakkai and Chooralmala regions of Wayanad, officials said. «The four families from Erattukund hamlet will be rehabilitated. Even though the officials tried to take them to camps near Meppadi, the families expressed interest in remaining at Attamala camp inside the forest,» a state government release said.

IndiGo cancelled scheduled flights to and from Dhaka with immediate effect on Monday due to the emerging situation in the wake of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigning amid unprecedented anti-government protests. A Vistara official said it operated the flight from Mumbai on Monday and the situation is being monitored for operations to Dhaka on Tuesday. While Air India operates two daily flights from Delhi to Dhaka, Vistara flies daily flights from Mumbai and three weekly services from Delhi to the Bangladesh capital. IndiGo has flights to Dhaka from the national capital, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata. The number of flights that are operated by the airline could not be immediately ascertained.

Enforcement Directorate told Supreme Court that the two prime accused senior bureaucrats in the Nagrik Apurti Nigam (PDS) scam of Chhattisgarh, were in contact with the judge who granted bail to one of the two. According to ED, Anil Kumar Tuteja and Alok Shukla were speaking to the High Court judge who «granted bail to Shukla in October, 2019.» ED claims that the two accused were in contact with the judge through Satish Chandra Verma, the then advocate general. While the probe agency has not named the judge in the affidavit filed on August 1, contents from WhatsApp chat details linked to the case found in annexures state that Justice Arvind Kumar Chandel was the judge in question, who was reached through former state chief secretary Ajay Singh. Justice Chandel was tranferred to Patna High Court this year.

J P Nadda on Monday urged state governments to spend more on improving healthcare infrastructure and dismissed opposition allegations on reduction of allocations under the PM-Ayushman Bharat Healthcare Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM). Replying to the debate on the demand for grants for the health and family welfare ministry in the Lok Sabha, Nadda listed the increase in number of medical colleges, steps taken for the reduction of out of pocket expenses on healthcare and initiatives for early screening of diseases such as cancer and sickle cell anaemia as achievements of the government. «We don't believe in just making announcements. We believe in effective planning, ensuring last mile delivery, identifying bottlenecks in last mile delivery and taking steps to remove them,» the minister said. Nadda dared Trinamool Congress members, who were protesting, to tell the House why the West Bengal government had not shared the dengue registry with the Centre.

CIL on Monday said it has entered into a joint venture agreement with GAIL (India) Ltd to set up a coal-to-synthetic natural gas project in West Bengal. While Coal India Ltd (CIL) will have 51 per cent shareholding in the joint venture, GAIL, the nation's largest gas transportation and distribution firm, will have 49 per cent. The joint venture will be incorporated as a private limited company. The initial paid-up share capital is Rs 1 lakh, CIL said in a BSE filing. The registered office of the joint venture will be in West Bengal and CIL and GAIL each will have the right to nominate three executives as directors of the JV.
