nimesulide, a commonly used painkiller, be watchful. Pharma standards body Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) has issued a drug safety alert over nimesulide, saying the pill can trigger rashes on the skin (fixed drug eruption). It asked consumers and healthcare professionals to closely monitor the use of the drug and report any adverse reaction to the National Coordination Centre-Pharmacovigilance Programme of India of the IPC. According to the IPC, the drug is used in inflammatory conditions including joint disorders like rheumatoid arthritis, post-traumatic and post-operative painful conditions and fever, as well as in acute pain in orthopaedic, ENT and dental conditions.

Trishakti Corps, Indian Army, conducted a training exercise on Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) firing at a Super High-Altitude Area of 17,000 Feet in Sikkim. Missile Firing Detachments from Mechanized and Infantry Units of the entire Eastern Command participated in the training exercise. KSK Mahanadi project may soon undergo a fresh round of bidding as the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) has vacated a stay on the resolution plan proceedings and allowed issuance of fresh expression of interest. The move will give a chance for a better valuation for the 1,800-MW project, which saw interest from the likes of Adani Power, Jindal Power and Vedanta Ltd in the first round of auctions, people close to the development said. The NCLT had stayed the sale process for the project in June 2022 following a plea to consolidate the resolution of KSK Mahanadi and two of its ancillary companies, which are also under resolution process.

Tata Steel, Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL), ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel (AM/NS), Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), and Jindal Stainless Limited (JSL) have bagged steel supply contracts worth ₹1,586.39 crore from the Railways. According to officials aware of the development, bids for procuring Mild/Corten Steel Sheets/Plates/Coils were called in July 2023 but award only be finalised earlier this month. Another tender was called for buying stainless steel sheets and plates in February 2024 which was also awarded at the same time. Public sector undertaking Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has bagged the lion's share in both tenders. SAIL will be supplying 1.05 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of steel worth ₹671.27 crore and another 16,356 MT of stainless steel worth ₹217.90 crore.

For bondholders of Vedanta Resources (VRL), the parent of Mumbai-listed Vedanta, a major concern is the security over the Indian entity's shares, said Fitch Group unit CreditSights in a report. militant associated with Pakistan-based terrorist organisation Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) was killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of southern Kashmir on Thursday, said Jammu and Kashmir Police. The encounter took place in Frassipora village of Pulwama, where a joint cordon and search operation was launched by police, 53 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army and 183 battalion of CRPF, police said. The slain militant, identified as Danish Sheikh, was a resident of Ellahi Bagh area in Srinagar and had joined the militant ranks just two weeks ago, according to the police.

Rahul Gandhi on Thursday hit out at the BJP-led government at the Centre, saying that unemployment is the biggest issue in the country, followed by inflation. Speaking at a rally at Anupgarh in the Bikaner in Rajasthan, Gandhi said farmers are asking for a minimum support price for their crops, youngsters are seeking employment and women want relief from inflation, but the government has not been listening. «Ask anyone — unemployment is the biggest issue. SC Lowy, the Hong Kong-based hedge fund, has invested in the debt of two projects recently. It had bought Rs 275 crore rupee bonds issued by Pune-based real estate developer Pharande Township and Rs 100 crore in the Srinagar-Banihal Expressway. An alternative investment fund backed by SC Lowy has invested in non-convertible debentures (NCD) in the last week of March. While Pharande NCDs do not pay any interest up to June 30, 2024 and 14% until maturity on March 31, 2026, Srinagar Banihal has offered 16% on the NCDs. The proceeds will be used for loan repayments and for working capital, a source said. In case of Srinagar Banihal Expressway Ltd, a subsidiary of Ramky Infrastructure, the proceeds from the NCDs will be used by SBEL to repay an inter-corporate deposit.

The red rebels were operating in Saranda and Kolhan, Asia's densest Sal forest area. «Twelve Maoists have surrendered before security personnel. They were operating in the Saranda and Kolhan regions and belong to the group of Maoist Misir Besra, who carries a bounty of Rs one crore on his head,» a senior police officer told PTI. West Singhbhum is considered one of the most left wing extremist-affected districts in the country. It had witnessed 46 Maoist-related incidents, resulting in 22 deaths last year.

Odisha Assembly Speaker Pramila Mallik has disqualified two ruling BJD MLAs as members of the House under Anti-Defection Law. The legislators — Arabinda Dhali and Premananda Nayak — recently joined the opposition BJP after resigning from the BJD. The assembly seats of Jaydev in Khurda district and Telkoi in Keonjhar district represented by Dhali and Nayak respectively fell vacant following the disqualification of the two members, the assembly secretariat said in a statement. Government chief whip Prasanta Kumar Muduli filed a petition before the Speaker on March 18 seeking disqualification of two members as they voluntarily gave up primary membership from the BJD.

Chandra Shekhar's son Neeraj Shekhar, who has been fielded by the BJP from Ballia in Uttar Pradesh in the upcoming Lok Sabha polls, on Thursday said he is still associated with the socialist ideology and slammed the Samajwadi Party (SP) for allegedly doing away with the ideas of Ram Manohar Lohia. «The socialist ideology should not be linked with the SP. I am still personally associated with the socialist ideology,» Neeraj Shekhar told PTI over the phone. The assertion by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate assumes significance as his late father was a proponent of the socialist ideology and a vocal critic of the saffron party. Chandra Shekhar's entire family is currently in the BJP. His elder son Pankaj Shekhar as well as younger son Neeraj Shekhar are in the saffron party while his grandson Ravi Shankar Singh Pappu is a BJP member in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council.
