Delhi Police has issued a traffic advisory in anticipation of heavy traffic during the ongoing wedding season in the city. The advisory comes amid reports of around 4 lakh weddings in Delhi, causing potential traffic chaos.
In fact, Delhi saw massive traffic jams on Thursday itself as the wedding season started on November 23.
To mitigate the inconvenience caused by the surge in wedding processions, Delhi Police has urged residents to follow the advisory. In a tweet earlier this week, the police department stated, «Due to the wedding season, certain roads will experience heavy traffic.
Kindly adhere to the advisory to avoid any inconvenience.»
Traffic officials have warned about heavy traffic on certain roads, including Mandir Marg, NH-48 from Dhuala Kuan to Rajokri flyover, Palam Road, Matadin Marg, GT Road, Bhagwan Mandir Marg, Najafgarh Firni Road, Ring Road from Azadpur to Punjabi Bagh, etc.
Cops have identified specific areas that are likely to be affected, including Vikas Marg, NH-8, Mayapuri, Dwarka, Dhaula Kuan, Karkardooma, Chattarpur, Sardar Patel Marg, Anand Vihar, Punjabi Bagh, Subhash Nagar, Tilak Nagar, and GT Karnal Road.
To manage the situation, traffic police have made necessary arrangements, particularly during the peak hours of 7:30 p.m.
to 9:30 p.m., when most wedding processions occur. Meetings have been held with banquet hall and farmhouse owners, as well as hotel officials, to ensure compliance with traffic regulations.
The Delhi Police has also warned that strict action will be taken against anyone found violating norms or bursting crackers.
