This bizarre rejection highlights some potential issues in the USCIS's review process, and Yuchen was quick to voice his frustration. On X (formerly Twitter), he expressed his disbelief, stating that he had worked hard to build his career, including obtaining a PhD in computer science, cofounding an AI startup, and raising $20 million in funding. Despite these accomplishments, he was rejected with this puzzling reason. «I got my CS PhD, cofounded an AI startup, and raised $20M. Yet, after waiting an entire year, I’m rejected with this absurd reasoning,» he wrote.
The USCIS claimed that Yuchen’s work didn’t have an impact «beyond that of Apple, Inc.,» but as he pointed out, this was a mistake since he has never worked at the tech giant. He emphasized that the officer who handled his case had likely made a careless error by copying and pasting parts of rejection letters from other applicants without considering the specifics of his application.
