Chennai’s Struggle With Early Onset Breast Cancer
More and more women in Chennai are being diagnosed with breast cancer in their 30s.
According to a report submitted by the Madras Metropolitan Tumour Registry associated with the Cancer Institutein Adyar, revealed that there has been a 7 per cent increase in the incidence rate of breast cancer in women over the past decade.
The report also claimed that there was a 1.5 per cent increase in the incidence of breast cancer among women aged 25 to 40.
What Is Early Onset Breast Cancer Becoming More Common?
In an interview with the Times Of India, R Swaminathan, the head of biostatistics epidemiology at the Instiutein, overall breast cancer cases have doubled to a frightening 48.6 per cent per one lakh women in 2022.

According to oncologists, detecting breast cancer can be more challenging in patients below 50, as their breast cells tend to be very dense.
What Are Some Risk Factors?
According to medical practitioners, aside from certain genetic factors that make one more predisposed to breast cancers such as BRAC1 and BRAC2 genes, lifestyle factors, poor diet, and delayed childbirth can make women more likely to develop breast cancer.
