Nicki Minaj, the prominent female rapper, in her recent Vogue cover feature, shared her perspective on the body positivity movement and why she disapproves of it when it promotes «unhealthy bodies.» She expressed, «I'm not supportive of body positivity if it means endorsing unhealthy bodies. That's not genuine; so let's be honest about it. I recently underwent breast reduction surgery, and I actually appreciate the outcome.
I used to desire a larger buttock, but now I realize how foolish that was. So, embrace your curves, as well as your non-curves. There's nothing wrong with any of it.»
Earlier this year, Minaj discussed her decision to have a breast reduction while on an Instagram Live session with JT from City Girls.
She mentioned, «If I were to disclose the size of my breasts, I can assure you that after the changes brought by nature for my son Papa Bear, your breasts would not still look sexy and attractive in your dresses. Trust me; they weren't the same size as mine.»
In her interview, Minaj also touched upon experiencing mom guilt and her efforts to overcome it. She said, «Well since I'm bound to feel mom guilt regardless, I might as well continue doing what I do best, which is making music.»
Minaj is currently working on her fifth album, "Pink Friday 2," the follow-up to her 2010 debut.
The album is set to be released in December, and she has already unveiled the project's first official single, «Last Time I Saw You,» which she described as a «happy-sad» song. She expressed, «I'm not saying I want this to be a sad song. I actually want people to feel happy when they hear it – a blend of happiness and sadness.
