It is no secret that the idea of going to college for most people is to find a job. But that is a vague goal. Your aim becomes sharper only when you narrow the search by using parameters such as skill sets, requirements, remuneration and growth prospects, among others.
The first step is to look at which sector suits you the most. Let us start with technology as it has over the past few decades fuelled the dreams of millions of youngsters. This year, though, the talent demand in the sector has been muted when compared with previous years.

According to TeamLease Edtech, the Indian technology sector is set to reach $245 billion, despite the headwinds. Major Indian IT firms are set to recruit about 50,000 freshers for roles in both IT and non-IT segments. The growth is being fuelled by the adoption of digital transformation initiatives and the emergence of new business opportunities in cloud computing, artificial intelligence (AI), cybersecurity and other cutting-edge technologies.
Some cities have shown to have better opportunities for certain roles or expertise.
Sekhar Garisa, CEO of foundit (formerly Monster APAC & ME), says there is high demand for data engineers, UI/UX developers, full stack developers, SEO executives, QA analysts/testers and network engineers.
