Lok Sabha Voting Phase 6: All the latest news
For the first time, AAP and Congress have formed a pre-poll alliance aimed at preventing a split in anti-BJP votes. This move comes after years of a three-way contest since AAP emerged on the political scene in 2013, altering the previously bipolar contests between BJP and Congress.
Both political camps have significant stakes in this election. BJP aims to reinforce its national dominance by repeating its past performance of winning all seven seats in Delhi, a feat achieved in the last two Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, Congress, allied with AAP, seeks to regain its foothold in Delhi's political landscape. AAP, which has dominated Delhi's state politics with substantial victories in the 2015 and 2020 assembly elections, is striving to extend its influence to the national level.
In the 2019 general election, BJP secured 56.7% of the vote in Delhi, while AAP and Congress garnered 18.2% and 22.6%, respectively. This election, however, sees a strategic alliance between AAP and Congress, with Congress fielding candidates in three constituencies and AAP in four.
