A clutch of companies including Infosys, Capgemini, Ericsson, and EY Global Delivery Services (GDS) are making employee travel more sustainable to reduce their carbon footprint. While increasing the usage of electric vehicles (EVs) is one part of the strategy, these companies are also focusing on measures like cutting down non-essential travel, phasing out CNG vehicles, and encouraging carpooling among employees.
EY GDS has developed an app exclusively for employees to boost carpooling. Almost 60% of its ferries are EVs, and the company is using them in almost all cities it operates in. It also avoids all unnecessary business travel and uses technology to create awareness among people by providing information around carbon-efficient flight options and the carbon footprint of every travel itinerary.
«We've achieved 40% lower carbon emissions in absolute terms from the base year in FY19 despite a significant increase in headcount,» said Mukul Pachisia, global operations leader (COO), EY GDS.
