Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Madhup Tewari addressed the media, highlighting the difficulties investigators faced due to the use of a virtual private network (VPN). “We were tracking e-mails and because of a virtual private network (VPN), it was difficult to track the origins. We also had to ascertain whether there was a terror angle to it,” Tewari said during a press conference at the police headquarters.
The police reported that the suspect was identified after their teams tracked emails sent on January 8. Due to the minor’s age, his laptop and mobile phone were seized for forensic examination. “Our teams tracked the minor after recent e-mails on January 8. As the e-mail sender was a juvenile, the team took his laptop and mobile phone for a forensic examination,” Tewari added.
Police uncovered a connection between the student’s family and the NGO. The organization, where the suspect’s father is reportedly involved, is part of a civil society group known for voicing support for Afzal Guru. The NGO is also linked to a political party, though the police did not disclose the name of the party.
