The press conference which was seemingly arranged to show that there is nothing wrong with him, proved to be counter-productive. Replying to the very first question, he called his Vice-President Kamala Harris "Vice-President Trump". He could not understand the mistake he had committed, his top Cabinet secretaries remained stone-faced in the front row of the audience while some reporters in the room murmured in surprise.

This embarrassing moment came on the same day when Biden introduced Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as "President Putin" at an event organized by the NATO. However, he corrected the verbal misstep involving Ukraine's leader immediately.
