elephants are nothing short of royalty at the Ambani animal rescue centre in Jamnagar, Gujarat. At the Radhe Krishna Temple Elephant Welfare Trust, which is spread over a sprawling 600 acres, more than 200 elephants rule the roost!
Recently, the animal rehabilitation centre Vantara shared a glimpse of the delicious menu fed to the gentle giants every day, on Instagram. “Did you know that elephants can eat up to 130 kg of food every day? Our kitchen facility at RKTEWT makes sure that these gentle giants receive the best nutrition throughout the day. Our expert staff creates meals that meet the unique dietary needs of each elephant in our care while ensuring the highest standards of hygiene and safety....because when it comes to animal welfare, every detail matters..” read the post.
Sharing the daily diet of an elephant named Leelawati, Vantara revealed that she consumed hearty meals such as one Ragi Laddu, 10 kg Khichadi, a roti, and 1 kg pellets for breakfast, green fodder, and Alfaalfa for a mid-morning snack. Lunch consists of plenty of leaves and branches 2 kg of fruit and 3 kg of vegetables. For dinner, she is served 10 kg of sorghum (fodder).
The menu also includes treats such as apples, pomegranates, carrots, and more, and bags of popcorn!
