The international tunnelling expert hit headlines, as he led a successful rescue mission to save 41 workers who were trapped inside Uttarkashi's Silkyara tunnel since November 12.
In a video shared by the news agency ANI, the Australian tunnelling expert is seen offering prayers at Baba Bokhnaag Mandir, a local temple. The clip has since gone viral on X, gaining 204K views and 8.8K likes. Many netizens gushed over this gesture.
One X user lauded him for submitting to the divine forces. “Sign of a great and humble person. When you understand there are forces beyond your control and you seek their blessings for success,” he wrote.
Another poster was all praise for Aussies. “Gotta give it to Australians. It was two Australians Richard Harris and Craig Challen who played an important role in saving Thailand football Kids too. Casual excellence from Australians in every walk of life. Like Cricket,” they wrote.
In an interview with the agency, Dix thanked his team for being the epitome of unconditional support and said that as a parent, he was relieved that he could unite so many parents (referring to the trapped workers) to their children before Christmas. He also praised Indian engineers, and described them as “the best.”
“It's been my honour to serve, and as a parent, it's been my honour to help out all the parents getting their children home. Remember in the beginning I said, 41 people home, and no one gets hurt by Christmas. Christmas is coming early… We were calm, and we knew exactly what we wanted. We worked as a wonderful team. India has the best engineers… It was just a joy to be part of this successful mission,” he told the news agency.
