Life took an unexpected turn for Chander Prakash when, at the age of four, he was diagnosed with polio. A high fever of 104 degrees led to a misdiagnosed injection, leaving him unable to use his legs. However, instead of letting his disability define him, Chander turned his life into an inspiring journey of perseverance and purpose.
Despite his physical challenges, Chander recalls having a fulfilling childhood. «My friends would hold my bag and carry me around,» he shared in the video. His determination to succeed led him to pursue a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.), followed by a career as a history professor. Yet, he felt there was more he could do.
In 2010, Chander's life changed when he joined the Family Of Disabled (FOD) foundation. Recalling his first day, he said, «From the very first day, I felt like I belonged. It felt like I was doing something meaningful—making pencils for kids, crafting wedding gifts, learning new handicrafts.»
The organization provided not only employment opportunities but also a sense of community. «We became a family. Khana-peena, dukh-sukh—sab mein saath the,» he expressed.
