Google recently hit headlines for laying off its staff en masse.Madhav Chinnappa, the ex-Director Of News, was one of the casualties of Google’s layoff spree. Taking to LinkedIn, the Indian-born Chinnappa shared the news of his layoff with his followers. He went on to reminisce about his 13-year tenure at Google, stating, that he was proud of his achievements.
“From Digital News Initiative (which wasn’t just a Fund — though a wise person did say that it helped kickstart a European media R&D culture) to the Google News Initiative Innovation Challenges — and of course Ludovic Blecher’s brilliant idea: JERF, the Journalism Emergency Relief Fund which showcased the best of Google: helping where it could when a vulnerable part of the news ecosystem needed it most and involving 300 Googlers," he wrote. He revealed that the research and development team at Google never got the due credit they deserved. The ex-Google boss also shared a glimpse of his future plans with his followers.
He revealed that he would take a few months off before rejoining the workforce, as he had some pressing personal issues. He also acknowledged that compared to many, he is in a relatively privileged position, and has no hurry to rejoin work. “I am in the privileged position of being able some time to figure that out.
