Facing pressure from the Dutch government to implement flight cuts at its main hub in Schiphol Airport, Rintel is now promoting Amsterdam’s strong links with neighbouring cities like Brussels and Paris through high speed rail.
The Netherlands government is planning to cap flights at Amsterdam’s Schiphol airport to 478,000 movements per year, to cut noise and carbon emissions at one of Europe’s busiest airports. The move has impacted airlines worldwide including Air India which is unable to increase flights to the Dutch capital.
“We buy a lot of seats from Amsterdam to Paris or from Amsterdam to Brussels on the Eurostar because it's quite convenient if you go by train. So, it’s similar to an airline codeshare where we work as partners,” Rintel told ET in an interview.
Rintel, however, believes that a solution to issues of aircraft noise and emissions cannot be reached through flight cuts but by inducting bigger and modern aircraft which emit lesser noise and can ferry more passengers.
