The initial leak came from Weibo user Digital Chat Station, who suggested that the iPhone 17 Pro would feature a horizontal row of cameras across the back of the phone. This arrangement was seen as a striking departure from the familiar triangular camera layout of the iPhone 15 Pro. The report included a render of an iPhone with three cameras placed in a straight line along the top edge, which led many to believe that this would be the new design for the iPhone 17 Pro. However, this idea now faces some skepticism.

In a new post on Weibo, another leaker, Instant Digital, has contradicted the previous report. According to their sources, the iPhone 17 Pro will retain the familiar triangular camera layout that was seen on the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro. This design makes more sense, especially since it supports features like Spatial Video recording, which is important for Apple’s Vision Pro headset. The triangular layout allows for seamless switching between lenses, something that a horizontal layout would struggle with.
While the camera arrangement is still uncertain, there are indications that the back of the iPhone 17 Pro may feature some changes. One rumor suggests that the camera area could be made of aluminum rather than the usual glass. However, it’s expected that most of the rear of the phone will still be glass to maintain wireless charging functionality.
