With so much potential dating options to choose from and only so many hours in a day, daters today are opting to temporarily hit the brakes on certain matches in a growing trend that’s being called ‘snooze dating’. Snooze dating is the act of temporarily pausing conversation to resume them at a later, more convenient time.
While exploring the reasons for “snoozing”, happn (which has over 38 million users in India) found that in the 18-25 age group, 39 per cent ‘snoozed’ crushes due to time constraints while 43 per cent often forgot to respond. 49 per cent of men believes they could have missed out on a great ‘Crush’ by pausing a conversation.
The platform found that when it comes to snooze dating, women outnumbered men. Men are more likely to snooze conversations owing to time restrictions (40 per cent) and occasionally due to more fascinating conversations elsewhere (33 per cent), whilst women tend to snooze when they are bored with the conversation (40 per cent) or didn't have time and forgot to respond (60 per cent), the platform said.
Interestingly, if given the chance to get a reminder about “snoozed” conversations, 80 per cent of women said they would want to resume discussions based on context, while 40 per cent of men would most definitely continue conversations regardless of context. 32 per cent of the men surveyed actually considered ghosting part-and-parcel of online dating, whereas women did not share this sentiment.
