US President Joe Biden's kin, Secret Service agents protecting Biden’s granddaughter Naomi Biden opened fire after three people tried to break into an unmarked Secret Service vehicle. According to the AP report, the agents, assigned to protect Naomi Biden, were out with her in the Georgetown neighborhood when they saw three people breaking a window of the parked and unoccupied SUV.
The Secret Service said in a statement that one of the agents opened fire, but no one was struck by the gunfire. After this, three people were seen fleeing in a red car. The Secret Service also said that it put out a regional bulletin to Metropolitan Police to be on the lookout for the absconders.
This is not the first incident of a US politician or his kin getting targeted. Three armed assailants stole the car of US representative Henry Cuellar of Texas near the Capitol last month, though they did not physically harm him. In February this year, Angie Craig of Minnesota suffered bruises after he was assaulted in her apartment building.
Naomi Biden is the eldest daughter of Hunter Biden, Joe Biden's son. She is named after her late aunt, Joe Biden's daughter from his first marriage, who was killed in a car crash. Naomi Biden became the first bride to tie the knot on the South Lawn when she married Peter Neal in November 2022. Naomi and her husband Peter also lived with Joe Biden and his wife at Pennsylvania Avenue.
