In a candid interview with Galatta India, Mala recounted how Kartik, ever the curious child, decided to test a deodorant’s flammability. «Kartik was always very curious,» Mala explained. One day, noticing the flammable warning on a deodorant bottle, he wanted to see if it would actually ignite. With his sister, Kritika, by his side, he asked her to light a candle so he could spray the deodorant through the flame.
Unfortunately, Kartik got a little carried away with the spray, and soon enough, Kritika’s hair caught fire. Thankfully, the flames were quickly put out, but not before Kartik found himself facing some serious consequences. «Since Kartik did this, he got a beating,» Mala recalled, though she couldn’t help but laugh as she shared the story.
Kartik, who was also part of the interview, quickly defended himself, laughing as he added, “I didn’t mean to burn her hair. She was just in the wrong spot, and when the flames went up, one side of her hair caught fire. I immediately started throwing water on her.” However, he acknowledged, «My mom was really angry at me after that.»
While Kartik’s childhood was full of such humorous and occasionally dangerous incidents, his mother also reflected on his early days of balancing his education and dreams of becoming an actor.
