Opposition to both these policy initiatives led to consolidation among Jats led to the party losing half of the total Lok Sabha seats in Haryana and more than forty per cent of the total seats in Rajasthan.
BJP won five in Haryana and fourteen in Rajasthan, while in 2019 Lok Sabha polls its vote share in both states was more than 50 per cent.
However, in Rajasthan besides Jats another caste Meena (ST) also voted against the BJP. The absence of a strong and influential Jat face in the BJP ranks also worked against it. Many believe could not be able to nurture a big Jat leader. Though BJP took back farm laws, by that time the damage was done. Jats are essentially in farming and are seen as an influential lot in their respective villages.
