A state government statement stated that the recent statement by ITLF has no legal or Constitutional basis. “This irresponsible statement appears to be motivated and aimed at vitiating and disturbing the law-and-order situation in the State.“
It added that the meeting of ruling legislators held on Thursday strongly condemned the statement of ITLF.
“Appropriate legal action is being initiated against the ITLF and persons concerned”.
Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum (ITLF) on Wednesday organised a massive protests rally in Manipur’s Churachandpur demanding fulfilments of its core demand of separate administration.
Ginza Vualzong, spokesperson, ITLF said, «It has been over six months, and nothing has been done on our demand of separate administration from Manipur government so we of our voice is not heard just within couple of weeks we will set up our self-government, weather Centre recognises it or not we will go ahead. As in a state or union territory, we will set up a self-government that will look into all matters in the Kuki-Zo areas, we have to do this since our voice has not been heard.”
He added, “If centre does not agree to its demand of a separate administration for the tribal areas of Manipur following months of ethnic unrest, the tribal groups from the Kuki and Zomi community are ready to establish their own self-governed separate administration».
Following the violence, 10 Kuki MLAs, including seven BJP MLAs, two Kuki People’s Alliance (KPA) and one Independent MLA demanded a separate administration in Manipur. Several Kuki organisations are pressing for separate administration for themselves in Manipur.
