Reneé Rapp has recalled being bullied while she was a part of the Mean Girls cast on Broadway, and how it led to her quitting the show. The actor, who will now be seen in the film version of Mean Girls, also revealed about her eating disorder.
While speaking to The Guardian in a recent interview, Renee Rapp said was body-shamed during her time as ‘Regina George’ on Broadway. She said that on the sets of Mean Girls, people would «say some vile things to me about my body». Renee Rapp went on to reveal that at the same time in her life, she was suffering from an eating disorder.
All that led to so much stress that she decided to quit the Broadway Mean Girls show. She wanted to focus on her music.
About her eating disorder, Renee Rapp said, «Eating disorders don't just go away and like, you're healed, like: 'Sorry, I can eat again, ha ha!' It's a lifelong thing. There are battles with addiction and whatever everywhere.»
The actor-singer revealed that she still struggles with the eating disorder. But she is happy that her «parents know that I've been taken out of environments that were really harmful to my sickness, which is awesome and a huge win».
She said that her parents are «more worried than they ever have been because they know more now.» The actor-singer added she is talking about her eating disorder now because she has «suffered in silence for so many years».
Rapp said that people are super mean to each other now. «This generation is still super mean to each other. But we are more outspoken – and give less of a (expletive),» she said.
