Mike Waltz's photo with The Atlantic editor Jeffrey Goldberg goes viral, could there be more to the Signal chat leak case than meets the eye?
National Security Adviser Mike Waltz has come under fire after a sensitive information was unintentionally leaked to The Atlantic's editor-in-chief, Jeffrey Goldberg, as per reports.
Mike Waltz Denies Knowing Jeffrey Goldberg
This week, Waltz was at the center of a scandal that started with him mistakenly inviting Goldberg to a highest-level group chat of national security officials on Signal app. While Waltz claimed he didn’t know who Goldberg was, a viral photo has cast doubt on his statement, leading many to question whether there’s more to this story than initially thought, as per DailyBeast.
During an interview on Fox News, Waltz swore he had never met Goldberg and had no idea how the journalist ended up in the group chat, reported DailyBeast. He told Fox News host Laura Ingraham, “I can tell you for 100 percent: I don’t know this guy… Wouldn’t know him if I bumped into him, if I saw him in a police lineup,” quoted DailyBeast. Waltz claimed, “I certainly wasn’t reaching out or talking to him at all… I didn’t see this loser in the group. It looked like someone else,” as quoted in the report.
Goldberg’s Version
But Goldberg, who released the complete transcript of private messages between top officials regarding a military attack in Yemen, had a different opinion, as per DailyBeast. In 'The Bulwark podcast', Goldberg remembered meeting Waltz at least twice, reported DailyBeast. Goldberg said, “I’ve met him, I think, twice in my life. Not recently, probably; like a couple of years ago,” quoted DailyBeast. He went on to say, “But it didn’t strike me as a crazy thing. He’s the national security adviser. I’m the editor of a magazine. I write about national security. We probably agree on a lot of stuff, too,” as quoted
