Brendan Ferrao, a local doctor, uncovered a human finger in an ice cream he purchased last Wednesday. As per TOI reports, the ice cream was manufactured by Laxmi Ice Creams in Ghaziabad. The wrapper indicated a manufacturing date of May 11, 2024, and an expiry date of May 10, 2025. Police said there was a possibility of contamination during packaging.
Ferrao, recounting the ordeal to authorities, detailed how he and his sister ordered three Yummo mango ice creams and 1kg of besan (chickpea flour) via the online delivery app, only to receive two mango and one butterscotch ice creams instead, with the disturbing surprise lurking in the latter.
Expressing his shock, Ferrao informed media that upon biting into the ice cream, he was «traumatised and felt like throwing up.» His immediate response was to contact Yummo, prompting a customer care executive to request order details and a picture of the product's packaging information. After initial assurances from the company, Ferrao received no further communication, leading him to escalate the matter to Malad police.
«I preserved the finger in ice and brought it to Malad police station along with the wrapper,» Ferrao disclosed.
In response, a spokesperson from Yummo asserted, «We are a law-abiding company and shall fully cooperate and support authorities in investigating the matter thoroughly.»
