In his post, Neel shared how starting from zero shaped his perspective on wealth and its accumulation over time. “For years, my wife and I would quietly smile when friends recounted their exotic holiday stories,” he wrote. “We’d return home and wonder why we couldn’t afford such trips. We had decent jobs and earned reasonably well.”
Neel highlighted how salaries can often be misleading without understanding the broader context. “Salaries can be deceiving,” he explained. “What truly matters is where you begin. If your parents own a home, you save on rent. If there’s a family car, you can delay buying your own. If your family goes on vacations, you only contribute a share. But when you’re the first in your family to build wealth, every dream has to wait its turn. It took us years to fully grasp this reality.”
His conclusion struck a powerful chord: “The truth is, when you start from zero, wealth takes time—sometimes even generations—to build. While not all of us may amass massive fortunes, we can provide our children with a strong foundation to build upon. And that, in itself, is significant.”
