Adani is being protected by the Prime Minister of India, said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday during a press conference.
Launching a scathing attack on the ruling party, Gandhi said, “Why is the government not getting Adani investigated?”
Rahul Gandhi cited a media report to accuse Adani Group of over-invoicing in coal imports and taking away Rs 12,000 crore from people. Electricity costs for common people going up due to inflation in cost of coal import by Adani, he added.
Calling it a “direct theft”, Gandhi said, “Adani buys coal in Indonesia and by the time the coal arrives in India, its price doubles. Our electricity prices are going up.
He (Adani) takes money from the poorest people. This story would bring down any government.”
When asked why he is not raising questions about Sharad Pawar's meeting with Adani despite INDIA alliance united on Adani issue, Gandhi said, " I have not asked Sharad Pawar, he is not the Prime Minister of India.
Sharad Pawar is not protecting Adani, Mr Modi is and that's why I asked Mr Modi this question. If Sharad Pawar was sitting as PM of India and protecting Adani, then I would be asking Sharad Pawar this question."
