As per the latest Electric Power Survey, the projected peak demand for FY26 is 270 GW and 249 GW for solar and non-solar hours respectively. In FY27, peak demand for solar hours may reach 288 GW and non-solar hours at 265 GW.
The power ministry now wants the generation capacity to be mapped out and has asked the Central Electricity Authority to reassess available capacity for the next two fiscal years based on latest capacity additions, said one of the persons cited above.
Assessment of capacities is likely to be based on letters of award for energy storage projects and capacity expected under viability gap funding scheme that will add to the available resources, the person said.
