The NSE Nifty index ended the session 242.56 points down at 22553.35, while BSE Sensex fell 856.65 points to 74454.41.
In the Nifty index, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd.(up 1.50 per cent), Dr. Reddy's Laboratories Ltd.(up 1.11 per cent), Eicher Motors Ltd.(up 0.98 per cent), Hero MotoCorp Ltd.(up 0.84 per cent) and Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd.(up 0.67 per cent) stood among the top gainers.
