SpaceX gears up for another Starship launch with major mission milestones on the list
It follows the earlier test in January, which ended with the vehicle exploding mid-flight. But that demonstration did build on a key success—in the January test, it became the first time a Super Heavy booster returned to the launch pad.
A vital step on the way to deep-space exploration.
With a height of 400 feet, the Starship system has two principal elements: the 165-foot Starship spacecraft and the 232-foot Super Heavy booster rocket. One of the biggest improvements made to this fully reusable rocket is to support human spaceflight missions, like NASA’s Artemis program, which aims to put astronauts back on the moon by 2027. SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has always had his sights set on using Starship as part of his plan to colonize Mars.
The launch on Monday will take place from SpaceX’s Starbase facility in Boca Chica, Texas, and the window opens at 6:30 PM EST. Spacex will conduct a number of tests that are important to the long-term objectives of the flight, including reusability and in-space operations during the flight.
