Actor, comedian, and writer Gina Yashere, co-creator of «Bob Hearts Abishola,» has joined the first season of «Star Trek: Starfleet Academy.» She will appear as a recurring guest star, portraying an instructor at the renowned institution.
Yashere will be joined by Holly Hunter, who plays the captain and chancellor of Starfleet Academy. The cast also includes Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Karim Diané, and Zoë Steiner as new cadets. Paul Giamatti will feature as the main villain of the season.

The official logline describes the show as introducing a young group of cadets who pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the guidance of their instructors, they learn what it takes to become Starfleet officers. The cadets navigate friendships, rivalries, first loves, and face a new enemy that threatens the Academy and the Federation.
Production for the series will begin later this summer. Fans will get their first look at the series during San Diego Comic-Con on Saturday.
