Jayam Ravi has finally come clean about his troublesome marriage with his estranged wife Aarti. The Tamil star, whose divorce from his former wife has devolved into a very public feud over property and control over social media handles, recently came clean about how he faced domestic abuse. In a tell-all interview with theFilmibeat, the ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ star claimed that he was mistreated in the marriage.
In the interview, he revealed that he faced a lot of disrespect from his estranged wife and her family. He also pointed out that despite having a flourishing career, he did not have a separate bank account and his wife has control over his finances. He stated that he did not have any control over his expenses and had to defer to his ex-wife.
The relationship was further strained when Aarti's mother, who had produced some of his films, supposedly classified them as losers despite their respectable box office results. He also claimed that the housemaids were treated better than him.
Several years ago, Ravi reportedly stopped using WhatsApp due to Aarti's relentless monitoring and frequent inquiries about his personal messages.
This intrusive behavior allegedly spilled over into his social media activities, with Aarti reportedly taking charge of his accounts and managing them herself. In addition, the well-known actor is said to have expressed that Aarti and her family showed him little respect, treating him worse than their household staff. The lack of autonomy and dignity, paired with Aarti and her family's controlling actions, is believed to have caused a serious rift in their relationship, eventually prompting Ravi to seek a divorce.
