Intelligence Bureau (IB), located in Guwahati's Hengerabari area on Sunday. As per ToI report, police security has been beefed up at the premises after the incident. The IB director's residence is situated on Gopalkrishna Path in Hengerabari.
Rupam Hazarika, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dispur police station, confirmed to ToI that an investigation is underway to apprehend the suspects and determine if any items were stolen during the break-in. He mentioned that a thorough analysis of the CCTV footage would be conducted to gather clues. A police department source told ToI that the building where the incident occurred was new and unoccupied.
The residence lacked security personnel, and it was clarified that the IB director's actual residence is located elsewhere. The ToI reported local residents of Gopalkrishna Path expressing their concerns about the prevailing petty crimes like theft and chain-snatching in the area. They pointed out that the police patrolling parties seldom enter the bylanes, urging authorities to extend patrols to curb petty crimes effectively.
Residents stressed the need for additional security measures, as the boundary wall of the campus was not significantly high, making it accessible for potential miscreants to cross and trespass. The incident reportedly occurred late at night, raising further security concerns in the locality. Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the burglary incident and taking necessary precautions to ensure the safety and security of the IB director's residence and the surrounding area.
