She subtly criticized former President Donald Trump without naming him and strongly endorsed Kamala Harris as a presidential candidate, highlighting the themes of hope and unity.
Opening her address, Michelle Obama detailed the challenges the nation is facing, stating, «America, hope is making a comeback,» which received a standing ovation from the audience.
She praised Kamala Harris, asserting her readiness and qualifications for the presidency. «Kamala Harris is more than ready for this moment. She is one of the most qualified people ever to seek the office of the presidency,» Michelle Obama said. She attributed Harris’s qualities to a legacy of strong women, including Harris's mother.
“For years, Donald Trump did everything in his power to try to make people fear us. See, his limited, narrow view of the world made him feel threatened by the existence of two hard working and highly educated, successful people who happen to be Black,” Michelle Obama said.
In a veiled reference to Trump’s comments about Harris and other Democrats, Michelle Obama stated, «No one has a monopoly on what it means to be an American, no one.» This statement emphasized her support for Harris while challenging divisive rhetoric.
