Data from the NCW website as of December 31, 2024, revealed that 17% (4,383) of the complaints pertained to dowry harassment, while there were 292 reports of dowry deaths, underscoring the persistent challenges faced by women in their marital homes.
Although 2024 saw a decline in overall complaints compared to 2023, when 28,811 cases were reported, domestic violence complaints remained significant. In 2023, 6,350 complaints of domestic violence were recorded.
Among the total complaints in 2024, more than half (54%, or 13,868) came from Uttar Pradesh, followed by Delhi (9%, or 2,245), Maharashtra (5.1%, or 1,317), Bihar (4.8%, or 1,233), Madhya Pradesh (4.2%, or 1,070), and Haryana (4.1%, or 1,048).
The data also highlighted other crimes against women: 6% (1,550) of complaints involved outraging modesty/molestation, 5.5% (1,422) related to rape and attempted rape, and 4% (1,015) were about sexual harassment.
