Suraj Revanna, a leader in the Janata Dal (Secular) and a member of the legislative council (MLC) in Karnataka, was arrested on Sunday following allegations of sexual assault. A party worker filed a complaint claiming that Revanna sexually abused him at Revanna's farmhouse in Ghannikada on June 16.
The 27-year-old complainant alleged that Suraj Revanna committed «unnatural offences» and sexually abused him. The charges include serious sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The complainant stated that Revanna assaulted him and later demanded ₹5 crore, which was reduced to ₹2 crore, to avoid filing a false case of sexual assault.
Suraj Revanna has categorically denied these allegations, suggesting that the charges are part of a political conspiracy. He stated, “I absolutely reject these allegations. They are part of a political conspiracy. An FIR has also been lodged against the complainant. Let the truth come out. I have faith in the law of the land.”
HL Shivakumar, an aide to Revanna, further explained that the complainant had initially approached Revanna seeking a job. When Revanna indicated that he could not help at the moment but might consider it in the future, the complainant then demanded money, alleging assault when the demands were not met.
