Bryan Johnson, a 47-year-old tech millionaire known for his anti-ageing pursuits was recently in India. During his visit, he made an appearance on co-founder Zerodha’s podcast. However, the American entrepreneur had to leave mid-way. Now in a tweet, he cited severe air quality issues as the reason.

Johnson explained on X that while the conversation with Kamath was enjoyable and Kamath had been an excellent host, the poor air quality became unbearable. He experienced irritation in his throat and eyes, along with skin rashes. Despite bringing an air purifier, it proved ineffective because the room was ventilated with outdoor air, ultimately forcing him to leave the recording midway.
Bryan Johnson shared that during his podcast with Nikhil Kamath in India, indoor air quality had an AQI of 130 and PM2.5 levels at 75 µg/m³, equivalent to smoking 3.4 cigarettes over 24 hours. By his third day, he experienced skin rashes and burning sensations in his eyes and throat due to the pollution. He was surprised by how normalized poor air quality seemed, with people, including children, exposed without masks despite the known health risks.
Johnson argued that improving air quality in India could have a greater impact on public health than curing all cancers and questioned why it isn’t treated as a national emergency, speculating that power and vested interests maintain the status quo.
