Michael Dell, the CEO of Dell Technologies, believes in the principle of «working smarter, not harder,» emphasising that enjoyment and balance are key to long-term success. Speaking on the podcast In Good Company, Dell explained, “I realised long ago that there’s a point of diminishing returns to the hours worked in a day. And if you’re going to do something for a long time, you better find the [right mixture of] working, playing, and relaxing.”

The 59-year-old billionaire’s approach extends beyond his personal life. His company, which generated $88 billion in revenue last year, is a testament to the effectiveness of his methods. Dell maintains a disciplined routine, going to bed by 8:30 or 9 p.m. and waking up early to exercise. “You won’t find me at the nightcap,” he quipped. “I’ll be asleep.”
Dell also values humour in the workplace. “If you can’t laugh, joke around, play tricks on people, you’re doing it wrong,” he said. Encouraging boldness among young professionals, Dell added, “Experiment, take risks, fail, find difficult problems, do something valuable, don’t be afraid, and be bold.”
