skills important, or is enthusiasm alone enough in today's world?
A debate over this is raging on LinkedIn after an IIM, IIT alumnus in a post said that enthusiasm, or «enthu,» plays a crucial role in staying relevant in today's rapidly changing professional landscape.
Ankur Garg, a Principal at Boston Consulting Group and an alumnus of IIM Ahmedabad, questioned whether enthusiasm alone could be a decisive factor for career success, given the importance typically placed on skills.
He wrote, «Back in B school, the only criteria for getting into any college society or club was ‘enthu’. If you were willing to put in the hard work, most clubs and societies were willing to make you their member. I often wondered how can being interested in something be the only criteria. Surely, the skills matter.»
«Over the last few years, it has been evidently clear that unlike our previous generations, most of us won’t have one job and one profession all our lives. You will frequently pivot as your profession evolves. The only determinant to stay relevant would be your ‘enthu’ to learn new things. Skills can be picked up as long as you have the right mindset.»
