UPS Action economy wellness information reports rights Rating firms aren't forensic accountants: Amish Mehta, CEO, Crisil
Crisil's chief executive Amish Mehta said that the rating firm's work depends on the findings of the auditor, who has greater access to information and the disclosures made by rated companies. Speaking to ET, he also pointed out, without naming any borrower, that a sharp stock price movement does not mean they have to put out statements on the rated issue, but if a 'material event' is triggered, Crisil has consistently issued statements in seven days. Edited excerpts: What are the additional steps Crisil has taken to ensure the data provided by rated companies are genuine and authentic? First and foremost, we are not forensic accountants. The way we carry out our business is, we have a contractual arrangement with the issuer to rate based on the information they have furnished to us, which is essentially audited, and management interaction. Separately, we try to triangulate that with publicly available information, benchmarks with peers, talk to bankers, and look at GST data.

insurance costs — probably even double what they paid in 2024 — after adverse weather that either washed out or severely curtailed three matches through the last season that coincides with a dry summer in most parts of the country. Last season, a single cancelled match led to claims of around ₹16 crore to ₹17 crore, forcing insurers to revise the pricing of risk. Event cancellation policies, once priced at approximately ₹40 lakh to ₹45 lakh, are now being re-priced to factor in the losses. Franchises, which previously took cover for around ₹2 crore premiums, now face costs of ₹4 crore to ₹5 crore. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which organises the IPL, faces costs of roughly ₹5 crore to ₹6 crore per match.

Discover Death Experts show Inside reports shock Gene Hackman death mystery deepens: Doctor claims wife Betsy Arakawa called him a day after authorities report she had died
Gene Hackman and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, has taken a bizarre turn. A Santa Fe doctor has come forward with a shocking claim that Arakawa called his clinic a full 24 hours after authorities claimed she had died—throwing the official timeline into question and adding another layer of mystery to the unfolding saga. Dr. Josiah Child, a physician at Cloudberry Health in Santa Fe, has contradicted the medical examiner’s report, which stated that 65-year-old Arakawa died on February 11 from hantavirus, a rare respiratory disease transmitted by rodents. But according to Dr. Child, she was very much alive the next morning. “She called back on the morning of February 12 and spoke to one of our doctors,” Dr. Child revealed. “She was supposed to come in that afternoon for an appointment. Platform Fighting Election isolate Interviews karate Jyoti Basu rejecting PM post not factor; support loss in WB, Tripura caused CPI(M) decline: Karat
«It is a fact that the party's independent strength and influence have not grown… And that's primarily been due to the erosion in our base of support in West Bengal and Tripura, two of the strong states that we have,» Karat said in an interview with PTI. «So, the focus of our forthcoming party congress is how we strengthen the party,» the CPI(M) interim coordinator added. The CPI(M) had 43 MPs in the 14th Lok Sabha from 2004 to 2009. Its tally declined to 16 in 2009, nine in 2014 and three in 2019. The party won four seats in the Lok Sabha in the 2024 elections. In state assemblies, the CPI(M)-led Left Front was defeated by the TMC in West Bengal in 2011 after being in power for 34 years. It was defeated by the BJP in Tripura — which the CPI(M)-led coalition had governed since 1993 — in 2018.

markets Citi Platform Strategy Parke stage Blackstone strengthens India strategy with foray into housing property market
Blackstone Group is foraying into India’s rapidly growing housing property market, marking a strategic shift after leading the country’s commercial property space, with clear focus on the mid-income and premium segment of the market to begin with, said persons familiar with the plan. While the global alternative asset management firm has already established itself as India’s largest office and logistics landlord, and expanded aggressively into data centers, the proposed acquisition of listed company Kolte Patil Developers, marks its first big bet on housing market. «The plan goes beyond investment to building execution and development capabilities, with no capital constraints for growth. Previously, assets were acquired and consolidated, as seen with Nucleus Office Parks, Horizon Industrial Parks, and Nexus Select. In contrast, the strategy for housing focuses on establishing the platform first and then adding assets,» said one of the persons mentioned above.

UPS Action President reports Features Beijing unveils 'special action plan' to stimulate lagging consumption
China's State Council unveiled on Sunday a 'special action plan' to boost domestic consumption, featuring measures including raising residents' income and setting up a childcare subsidy scheme. The plan comes as levels of consumer demand have suffered various setbacks in recent years, due to factors like COVID-19 disruptions and a long property slump, chilling the propensity of households to spend and adding to deflationary trends. Expanding domestic demand It was issued to all regions and departments to «vigorously boost consumption, expand domestic demand in all directions, improve consumption capacity by increasing income and reducing burdens,» a report from the Council said. The plan comes a week after Chinese Premier Li Qiang's work report to the National People's Congress which focused on boosting household spending to cushion the impact of weak external demand. Pressure has been building on Chinese officials for consumer-focused stimulus measures to fend off deflationary pressures and reduce reliance on exports and investment.

BLOCK Citizens President country Courts rights International US sends 'Venezuelan Gang Members' to El Salvador prison despite court block
Venezuelan gang to be imprisoned in El Salvador, President Nayib Bukele said Sunday, after US counterpart Donald Trump invoked wartime authorities to expel migrants. Trump signed an order invoking the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 on Friday, but it was not publicly announced until Saturday. The wartime authority allows a president to detain or deport citizens of an enemy nation, but has been invoked only three times before during major international conflicts. Civil rights groups sued to block the order, with a federal judge Saturday granting a temporary suspension of the order, apparently as planes were already headed to El Salvador. «Today, the first 238 members of the Venezuelan criminal organization, Tren de Aragua, arrived in our country,» Bukele said on X. Bukele, in a meeting last month with US secretary of state Marco Rubio, had offered to house prisoners from the US in his country. He said in his post that the alleged gang members had been sent to the country's maximum security Terrorism Confinement Center. The detention and expulsion order will apply to all Venezuelan Tren de Aragua members who are over 14 and not naturalized US citizens or lawful permanent residents.

Competition Commission of India (CCI) chairperson Ravneet Kaur. «We are seeing rapid adoption of AI; it has become a driving force in modern markets and through the use of AI there could also be potential ways of collusion… therefore regulators need to take a forward-looking approach,» she said. Speaking at the National Conference on Economics of Competition Law, Kaur said market studies were among the tools that enabled «comprehensive analysis of market structure, the way the business models are operating, the various arrangements among players and potential competition issues». She pointed out that the amendments to the competition law introduced in 2023 aimed to balance enforcement with market friendly regulations. The government had introduced amendments to the law which brought in concepts such as commitment and settlement and a shift from turnover-focused identification of transactions to deal-value focused. «Deal value thresholds have been introduced» to identify transactions in combination, Kaur said. Even after the completion of the investigation by the director general, the amendments incentivise stakeholders to offer settlement through «discount settlements», she said.
