No Canada hit on masur dal supply, but India plays safe
Nijjar killing episode had lately led to some speculations regarding the flow of masur dal (red lentils) into India as Canada happens to be one of the main sources for its import. According to a September 24 ToI report, though, the Indian government so far is “comfortable” as far as the import of this item is concerned. Nearly lakh tonnes of it have arrived at Indian ports amid the ongoing diplomatic tiff, ToI said citing officials. “Against our annual consumption of 23 lakh tonne of lentils, the domestic production is around 16 lakh tonne.

Second ODI: Pressure mounts on Shreyas Iyer, Ashwin for performances that count
Shreyas Iyer will be desperate for some runs after missing out on a flat track while the skillful R Ashwin will be searching for wickets in the middle overs when India take on Australia in the second ODI here on Sunday. Despite missing four first-XI players, including skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India were able to win the first ODI rather comfortably and look on course to secure the series at the Holkar Stadium which usually produces high-scoring games. Rain in the city has brought the temperature down which will be welcomed by the players from either side after experiencing unusual heat and humidity in Mohali. The game on Friday had enough positives for India, mainly the performance of Mohammad Shami and Suryakumar Yadav, but few questions still need to be answered ahead of the World Cup, beginning October 5. India's designated number 4 Iyer, whose fitness came under the scanner in the Asia Cup even though he was coming back from a long injury-lay off, has not been able to get time in the middle due to different reasons. While a back spasm ruled him out of the business end of Asia Cup, an avoidable run out on Friday ended his nervy 8-ball stay in the centre. The right-hander will be hoping for a bagful of runs in the coming two games which would make him and his team feel much better going into the global event. Ashwin, on the other hand, came up with a tidy bowling effort in his comeback game but was not able to put the Australian batters in much discomfort on a flat track.

Utopian to think justice delivery can't be challenged: CJI at International Lawyers' Conference
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud on Saturday said it was «utopian» to think that there could ever be a day when the «delivery of justice» will not be challenged. Addressing the inauguration of the International Lawyers' Conference 2023 in the national capital on Saturday, the CJI also underlined the «pivotal role» played by India in raising Supreme Court buildings in Mauritius and Bhutan. The CJI, however, said it is realistic to aspire to a world where nations, institutions and, most importantly, individuals are open to engaging with each other. «Each one of us has volumes to learn from different jurisdictions, perspectives, and most importantly each other..,» CJI Justice Chandrachud said at the inauguration of the International Lawyer's Conference on Saturday. Inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Vigyan Bhawan on Saturday, the inauguration was also attended by Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal. He said the programme will witness the participation of distinguished judges, legal professionals, and leaders of the global legal fraternity over the next two days. «It is utopian to think that there will be a day when we will find perfect solutions and no challenge to justice delivery.

Australian regulator sues crypto exchange for design, distribution failures
civil proceedings against Bit Trade Pty Ltd, provider of the Kraken crypto exchange to Australian customers, for failing to comply with design and distribution obligations for its margin trading product. The design and distribution obligations (DDO) require firms to design financial products that meet the needs of consumers and distribute them in a targeted manner. The Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) alleged that Bit Trade failed to make a target market determination for the product before offering it to customers, and continues to offer it despite being notified of the ASIC's concerns in June last year. Bit Trade's margin trading product is a credit facility as it provides customers credit to buy and sell certain crypto assets on the Kraken exchange, ASIC said.
