Brazil: 14 dead after medium-sized aircraft crashes in Barcelos
The Bandeirante model vehicle was carrying 12 tourists, along with the pilot and co-pilot. The report quoted the Civil Defence as saying that there were no survivors in the incident. The crash took place as the plane was trying to land in the city, which is located about 400 km from the state capital, Manaus, from where it had taken off, CNN Brasil reported. The crash took place around 3 pm (Brazil time), according to the report. The aeroplane possibly crashed due to bad weather, the report stated, adding that it was raining heavily at the time of landing. Further, according to CNN Brasil, the passengers in the ill-fated aircraft were going to practice recreational fishing. The Center for Research and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Cenipa) confirmed in a statement that investigators from the Seventh Regional Service for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents (Seripa VII) were asked to report to the site of the plane crash. Seripa VII is a regional body of Cenipa. According to the Cenipa, initially, special techniques are used to collect and confirm data, preserve evidence, verify damage caused to the aircraft, or by the aircraft and gather other important information for the investigation process, CNN Brasil reported. The conclusion of the investigation will take the minimal time possible and will always depend on the complexity of each occurrence, the report stated, adding that the probe also needs to pinpoint possible contributing factors to the incident. According to the National Civil Aviation Agency (Anac), the aircraft belonged to the company named Manaus Taxi Aereo and was regularised and authorised to carry out air taxi service. Manaus Aerotáxi, a company that operated the aircraft,

Northern Railways' Lucknow division spends Rs 69 lakh to catch 168 rats!
Lucknow division of Northern Railways has spent a staggering amount of Rs 69.5 lakh between 2020 and 2022 to catch just 168 rats, according to a report in the Times of India. This astonishing expenditure breaks down to approximately Rs 23.2 lakh per year or slightly over Rs 41,000 per rodent. The startling figures were disclosed in response to an RTI query posed by Chandrashekhar Gaur, an RTI activist based in Neemuch. Pest and rodent control activities within the railways fall under the category of primary maintenance. This primary maintenance is carried out on trains that belong to the respective railway divisions. Northern Railways comprises five divisions: Delhi, Ambala, Lucknow, Ferozepur, and Moradabad. It is noteworthy that Gaur's RTI inquiry was directed at Northern Railways, with only Lucknow division providing a comprehensive response to his queries. «So far, the Ferozpur and Moradabad divisions have not replied. The Ambala & Delhi divisions' replies scurried past the questions, much like a clever rodent would on seeing a trap,» the Times of India report added. However, even Lucknow division's response lacked information on the extent of damage caused by rodents. In this regard, the division's central public information officer stated, «details not available for damaged goods and items. No assessment of damage has been made.»

Earth's warmest August saw 65 countries set record high temperatures: Report
Berkeley Earth, which focuses on environmental data science and analysis, said last month was the warmest August since records began to be kept in 1850, with «particularly warm conditions» prevailing in parts of India, Japan, North Atlantic, Eastern Equatorial Pacific, Northern South America, Central America, parts of Africa and the Middle East. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a US government agency, said on Thursday that 2023 witnessed Earth's hottest August in its 174-year climate record. The sizzling month also marked the northern hemisphere's warmest meteorological summer and the southern hemisphere's warmest meteorological winter on record, the NOAA's National Centres for Environmental Information said. Berkeley Earth said August 2023 exceeded the previous record set in August 2016 by 0.31 degrees Celsius, «a surprisingly large margin, well outside the margin of uncertainty». Its researchers said: «We estimate that 13 per cent of the Earth's surface experienced its locally warmest August average, and 87 per cent of the Earth's surface was significantly warmer when compared to its local average during the period from 1951 to 1980.» In total, they estimated that 65 countries (mostly in the tropics) witnessed their warmest August on record. These countries include Bahrain, Barbados, Brazil, Cambodia, Cameroon, Chad, China, Colombia, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, Japan, Kenya, Mexico, Morocco, Niger, Panama, Peru, the Philippines, Qatar, Russia, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Suriname, Turkiye, Venezuela and Yemen. Some of these countries broke their August records by extraordinary margins.

Alien fraud! Mexico's Congress debunks 1,000 year old extraterrestrial claims
Lawmakers gathered in Mexico City to listen to testimonies from researchers representing Mexico, the United States, Japan, and Brazil, all proposing the intriguing possibility of extraterrestrial life. This event mirrored a similar one in the US Congress just two months prior when a former US Air Force intelligence officer claimed knowledge of «non-human» activity dating back to the 1930s. One of the focal points of this session was Mexican journalist Jose Jaime Maussan, who presented two boxes containing what he and others believed to be «non-human beings unrelated to our terrestrial evolution.» These desiccated, shrunken bodies with warped heads left those in the chamber astonished, sparking a surge of social media activity. Maussan emphasized the significance of DNA analysis, stating, «It's the queen of all evidence.» However, he refrained from categorizing them as «extraterrestrials» at this stage. These enigmatic bodies purportedly date back to 2017 and were found deep underground in the Nazca desert of Peru, famous for its colossal, mysterious geoglyphs.
