Quick commerce platform Swiggy Instamart on Monday said it will now deliver smartphones in 10 major cities. However, a region-based analysis of inflation data indicates the South has averaged higher on the metric, presumably driven by demand, as those migrating from the less prosperous northern, eastern and central states seek toeholds in bustling economic hubs such as Coimbatore, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, and Cochin. “The region-wise index share CAGR growth during FY12 to FY25 (until Feb 2025) indicates that the southern region has the highest CAGR inflation of 6% in overall inflation,” SBI Research said in a study that analysed inflation across states and federally administered areas over the past 14 years. Curiously, inflation in the South trended above the national average over the period in both rural and urban areas, indicating prosperity across the geographic spectrum – and possibly the impact of labour migration from the less economically advantaged states into even remote villages in the South – particularly the remittance-heavy Kerala.

Karnataka Cabinet has given its nod for amending the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurement (KTPP) Act aimed at providing 4 per cent reservation in tenders to Muslim contractors, official sources said. The Cabinet also approved the Karnataka Gram Swaraj and Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill, which seeks to provide 'B' khatas to all unauthorised rural properties, similar to the exercise being carried out in urban areas. The bill is expected to cover some 90 lakh rural properties that do not have khatas. According to the sources, the Cabinet discussed a proposal to give 4.24 acres of land belonging to the Agriculture Department in Hebbal for the International Flower Auction Bangalore (IFAB) on a rent-free basis for two years. Discussions were also held on approving financial assistance of Rs 96.77 crore for reconstruction and replacement of equipment at Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre after the January fire incident. The Cabinet discussed measures to reform the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) on Friday, the sources said.

Karnataka government has proposed three potential locations for Bengaluru’s second international airport. The proposal was sent to the Union Ministry of Civil Aviation on Thursday, outlining the sites around Bengaluru where the new airport could be built, a Deccan Herald report stated.

Infrastructure major Larsen & Toubro (L&T) on Wednesday said one of its verticals has bagged 'significant' projects from a reputed developer to construct residential towers. The building and factories vertical of Larsen & Toubro will construct residential towers in Mumbai, Bangalore and Chennai, L&T said in a regulatory filing. All the projects are to be executed within stringent timelines, the filing said. According to Larsen & Toubro's classification, a 'significant order' refers to a project valued between Rs 1,000 crore and Rs 2,500 crore.
