IAS officer and IIT-IIM graduate pens emotional post on 'guilt of motherhood' on Women's Day, says it's important to 'forgive yourself'
Divya Mittal, an officer of the esteemed Indian Administrative Service (IAS), is no stranger to adversity. Her journey toward becoming a civil servant was paved with relentless effort, unwavering determination, and countless sacrifices. Before successfully clearing one of the nation’s most challenging competitive examinations, she pursued higher education at two of India’s most distinguished institutions—the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Delhi and the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Bangalore. While securing admission into these premier institutes and eventually entering the bureaucratic system required immense perseverance, Mittal acknowledges that none of these hurdles compare to the complexities and emotional demands of motherhood. On the occasion of International Women’s Day, she shared a series of reflections about the trials and triumphs of raising two young daughters while simultaneously managing the weighty responsibilities of her profession.

Indian students to apply for the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards, which offer a £10,000 (approximately ₹11.26 lakh) fee waiver for postgraduate studies aimed at creating a broader societal impact. Vice-Chancellor Professor Shitij Kapur highlighted the awards’ significance, particularly for Indian students, as he himself had left Delhi for higher studies abroad. He also emphasized the university’s long-standing Indian connection, mentioning freedom fighter Sarojini Naidu as one of its early female alumni. “We were one of the earliest universities in the UK to teach Sanskrit and Bengali, and Sarojini Naidu was one of our remarkable students in the very early days when King's started admitting female students,” Kapur told PTI.

Denied wheelchair by Air India, elderly woman falls down at Delhi airport, lands in ICU
Indira Gandhi International Airport. The elderly passenger, the widow of a decorated Lieutenant General, had pre-booked a wheelchair with Air India for her Delhi-to-Bengaluru flight on 4th March. But when she arrived at Terminal 3, no wheelchair was provided despite repeated requests. Her granddaughter, Paraul Kanwar, recounted the ordeal in a viral post on X (formerly Twitter). “We tried for almost an hour, requesting airline staff, the airport help desk, even alternate airline staff from IndiGo (who had a free wheelchair but refused to share).” With no help in sight, the frail woman attempted to walk across three parking lanes with the support of a family member. But exhaustion took its toll. Near the Air India premium economy counter, her legs gave way. She collapsed.

Where will funds come from? Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit questions BJP's financial aid scheme in Delhi
Sandeep Dikshit on Saturday questioned the implementation of the BJP's financial aid scheme of providing Rs 2,500 per month to women in Delhi and said that the scheme compromises 60 per cent of the national capital's budget. «If they fulfil that promise, we will welcome it. However, there is only one question: Where will the funds for this come from? The BJP had said that every woman above the age of 18 would be given this honour. If we go by the Election Commission's data, there were approximately 72 lakh female voters in Delhi. The total cost for this comes to around Rs 21,600 crore. Now, considering the entire development budget is 37,000 crore, which includes hospitals, schools, and subsidies, how can you allocate around 60 percent of the budget to just one scheme?» Dikshit told ANI. «I hope that the money spent by the Delhi government will not compromise development,» the Congress leader said.

Court dismisses Delhi Minister Kapil Mishra's plea against summoning order in MCC violation case
Rouse Avenue Court on Friday dismissed Delhi Law Minister Kapil Mishra's revision plea, in which he had challenged the trial court's cognizance and summoning order in a case related to an alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The trial court had taken cognizance of the charge sheet in 2020, which pertained to a statement allegedly made by Kapil Mishra in January 2020, when the MCC was in force during the Delhi Assembly elections. «The word 'Pakistan' is very skillfully weaved by the revisionist in his alleged statements to spew hatred, careless to communal polarisation that may ensue in the election campaign, only to garner votes,» the court said while dismissing the plea.
