India-Pakistan ICC World Cup: It's raining charters at Ahmedabad airport
private jet flights-four times the usual traffic-will ferry some of India's wealthiest people to and from Ahmedabad, as per data from the city airport. Reason: the much-awaited India-Pakistan match of the ICC World Cup to be held at the Narendra Modi stadium, the world's largest cricket ground, on Saturday. The 48-match tournament runs till November 19. The Ahmedabad airport has run out of parking slots for private jets, said a person in the know. It's giving conditional approval to some of these jets and asking the rest to park at other airports such as Surat and Mumbai. «The last time we saw such massive demand for private jets was during Isha Ambani's wedding,» said Kanika Tekriwal, founder of JetSetGo, a charter operator and aggregator, referring to the opulent wedding of India's richest man Mukesh Ambani's daughter.

Gearing up for Lok Sabha polls: From backroom to streets, Abhishek Banerjee's image makeover
Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, who has been more of a strategist and worked mostly from the backroom for Bengal's ruling party, seems to be undergoing a political image makeover. Since the start of this month, he has led sit-in protests in New Delhi and then in front of the Raj Bhawan in Kolkata, demanding funds to pay workers under the rural employment guarantee scheme that, according to his party, the BJP government at the Centre has been denying the state. This is the first time that he has led a street protest, in what is seen as a larger strategy to step into the shoes of aunt Mamata Banerjee, the Trinamool supremo and BengalCM known for her «street fighter» image. Mamata Banerjee was absent at both Delhi and Kolkata protests where Abhishek was surrounded by senior leaders, MPs, MLA and ministers. Images of Abhishek Banerjee being dragged out of Krishi Bhawan in New Delhi by the Delhi Police last week brought back memories of Mamata Banerjee in her youth shouting slogans as a Youth Congress leader and her journey forward, such as the protest against the Tata Nano factory in Singur, political observers said.

Sikhs have made biggest sacrifices for nation: Amit Shah
Amit Shah said on Friday, even as he listed out the measures taken by the Modi government for the benefit of the community. The Citizenship Amendment Act has opened the way to Indian citizenship for the Sikhs who were tortured in neighbouring countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan, Shah said, addressing an event organised by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. The amendment to the Citizenship Act of 1955 passed by Parliament in 2019 is yet to be implemented, as rules have not been framed. The amendment makes it easier to get Indian citizenship for Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians who entered the country on or before December 31, 2014 from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan. Shah said victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots got justice after the Modi government came to power in 2014.
