India International Trade Fair (IITF) set to commence Thursday at Pragati Maidan, the Delhi Traffic Police has released an advisory to manage anticipated high volumes of traffic. The advisory comes as nearly 60,000 visitors are expected daily, with the number likely to surge to 150,000 on weekends and holidays.

Uttar Pradesh government, which has been receiving flak from various quarters over «bulldozer action», Wednesday hailed the verdict. The Yogi Adityanath-led govt on the matter said it will help curb organised crime and instil a fear of legal consequences among criminals. The opposition parties hoped that with this verdict, the «bulldozer terror» and «jungle raj» in the state would end. Previously, the Supreme Court laid down pan-India guidelines over the demolition issue and said no property should be demolished without a prior show cause notice and the affected must be given 15 days to respond.

Indian Railways has fast-tracked deployment of automatic train protection (ATP) system Kavach on a fifth of its network, with contracts for installing the system on 10,000 locomotives and 1,105 route kilometres (RKM) of tracks set to be awarded this month, said officials. The national transporter has also thrown its weight behind a 2030 Kavach Rollout Plan that targets manifold ramp-up of installed capacity, they said. «Bids have been invited for 14,735 RKM while over 1,500 RKM of Kavach is operational. Work is also underway on 3,000 RKM of tracks for Kavach deployment,» said a senior official, who did not wish to be identified.

Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought the stand of the Centre and the WFI on a plea by celebrated wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and her husband Satyawart Kadian pressing that affairs of the federation be taken over by an IOA-ad hoc committee or a retired Supreme Court or High Court judge. Justice Prateek Jalan issued notice on the application by celebrated wrestlers Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik and her husband Satyawart Kadian which sought to restrain the present management of the WFI from taking any steps towards holding any selection trials. The court asked the Centre and the WFI to file in two weeks their response to the application, which forms part of the wrestlers' petition against the elections held in federation, and listed the matter for hearing on December 12.

Delhi overtook Lahore on Wednesday to become the world's most polluted city in Swiss group IQAir's live rankings. India's pollution control authority said the national capital's 24-hour air quality index (AQI) score had touched 418. The pollution levels touched the 'severe' category for the first time this season as temperatures and wind speeds dropped, reducing visibility and affecting some flights. At least eight flights were diverted from the city's Indira Gandhi International Airport, news agency ANI reported. The Central Pollution Control Board defines an AQI reading of 0-50 as «good», and above 401 as «severe», which affects healthy people and seriously impacts those with existing diseases.

According to a TOI report, the scam came to light after a woman from Dwarka, who lost Rs 5 lakh in the scheme, filed a police complaint. She had responded to an advertisement on Facebook, leading her to a Telegram group where the fraudsters operated.

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) department has issued a crucial advisory to Indian nationals applying for UK visas, urging them to stay vigilant against potential fraud. Scammers often impersonate officials, claim expedited visa processing, or request payments through unauthorized channels. UKVI emphasized that it will never reach out through social media, request payments by email or personal bank accounts, or guarantee visa approvals in exchange for third-party payments. All payments for UK visa services should be made exclusively via GOV.UK or its verified partners. Indian nationals emerged as the largest recipients of UK visas across Visit, Study, and Work categories for the year ending June 2024.

Delhi's air quality has stayed in the 'very poor' range for 15 consecutive days, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) on Wednesday. As per CPCB data, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in several areas of Delhi continues to be critical. Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 395, ITO was at 374, and Jahangirpuri measured 384, all falling within the 'very poor' category as of 7:30 AM.
