Motherson JV set to join Apple vendors' family circle in India
Motherson Group is poised to enter the growing Apple supply chain network in India along with Hong Kong-based BIEL Crystal Manufactory, one of the world’s largest suppliers of glass for smartphones, said people with knowledge of the matter. This will make the Vivek Chaand Sehgal-led auto component maker the second large business group after Tata to become a vendor for Apple as part of Motherson’s plan to use its core manufacturing prowess to diversify into other segments. BIEL was established in 1989 by billionaire Yeung Kin-man in Shenzhen, China, to make watch crystals. The company says it’s one of the earliest manufacturers of glass screens for mobile devices, having begun in the early 2000s, when they were made mostly of plastic. By some estimates, BIEL currently produces glass screens for two of every three iPhones. The 51:49% alliance, the Indian company will have the majority stake, is planning to set up a greenfield manufacturing capacity in the south, most likely Tamil Nadu, with an estimated outlay of Rs 2,000-2,500 crore, said the people cited above. It aims to hit a turnover of Rs 8,000-8,500 crore in four-five years after operations start. The consumer electronics business is scheduled to come onstream in the July-September quarter.

Proposed amendments to Wakf Act in line with BJP's politics of polarisation: Tejashwi Yadav
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday alleged that the proposed amendments to the Wakf Act were in line with the BJP's politics of «polarisation» along religious lines. The former Bihar deputy chief minister, who is now the Leader of the Opposition in the state assembly, also questioned the Centre's reluctance to place in Constitution's ninth schedule the legislations, struck down by the Patna High Court, by which quotas for deprived castes had been hiked in the state. «The Union government seems to have no interest in working for the poor. This is a reflection on the ruling BJP at the Centre, which believes in the politics ofte polarisation,» Yadav told reporters. He was responding to queries about proposed amendments to the Wakf Act, which have met with stiff opposition from parties like Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi's AIMIM, and drawn flak from constituents of the INDIA bloc.

Explained: How Sheikh Hasina’s resignation will impacts India-Bangladesh ties
Sheikh Hasina's resignation as Prime Minister and departure from Bangladesh created multiple uncertainties for India. For over one-and-a-half decade she was New Delhi’s strongest ally, and during this time, India-Bangladesh relations reached new heights. The bilateral ties flourished with advances in cross-border trade, transit arrangements, security collaboration, and people-to-people exchanges. However, Hasina’s ouster casts doubt on these achievements. The protests that led to her departure also carried an anti-India sentiment, given the close association perceived between Hasina and New Delhi.

Honoured and flattered that Sheikh Hasina feels safe in Bharat: Kangana Ranaut
Kangana Ranaut on Monday said it is a matter of great honour that Bangladesh leader Sheikh Hasina «feels safe in Bharat» after Hasina resigned as prime minister and landed near Delhi in a military aircraft amid unrest in her country. Ranaut, a national award-winning actor and BJP MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, also criticised those questioning "Hindu Rastra (a Hindu nation)". She claimed that Muslim countries are not safe «even for Muslims». «Bharat is the original motherland of all Islamic Republics around us. We are honoured and flattered that honourable Prime Minister of Bangladesh feels safe in Bharat but all those who live in India and keep asking why Hindu Rashtra? Why Ram Rajya? Well it is evident why!!! »No one is safe in Muslim countries not even Muslims themselves. Unfortunate whatever is happening in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Britain. We are lucky to be living in Ram Rajya," the 38-year-old MP, who has often courted controversies with her remarks, said in a post on X.

Bangalore remains frontrunner in GCC office leasing, followed by Hyderabad Chennai
Bengaluru: Global Capability Centers (GCCs) in India have leased approximately 53 million square feet of office space in key Indian cities between 2022 and the first half of 2024, such as a highly skilled workforce, cost advantages, and favourable business conditions, according to CBRE and Zyoin's latest report. This growth is expected to continue, especially in India's top six metropolitan areas like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Delhi-NCR, and Mumbai, due to factors which boast exceptional talent pools that are conducive to expansion and future development. In the first half of 2024, office leasing activity in the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) region across six significant cities increased 8% year-on-year. During the same period, GCCs contributed to around 37% of India's total office leasing activity.
