Tamil star Sivakarthikeyan teases Elon Musk: If you block my X account, I will celebrate
Sivakarthikeyan recently brought his signature wit when discussing about social media. Speaking about his limited use of platforms these platforms, he jokingly suggested that getting his X (formerly Twitter) account blocked by Elon Musk would be a personal victory. “In the last two years, I’ve been using social media very less. If you want to use it, use the internet. This is my kind advice, but don’t use much of social media, especially Twitter. Maybe, I think Elon Musk might block my account—that will be the first success I think for me,” Sivakarthikeyan quipped during his conversation at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa, according to IANS.

Today, many students can be seen asking the question, “what more can we do?”, as elite universities seek students who offer much more than educational excellence and come with attributes that are well suited to the environment on the campus. Kolkata Police on Monday brought R G Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder accused Sanjay Roy to Sealdah court in an apparent attempt to prevent journalists from hearing his voice. Maharashtra polls: It's tight, but there's no rebel and I will win, says Prithviraj Chavan on Karad South seat
Karad South has only had three MLAs representing it — Yashwantrao Mohite from 1952 to 1980, Vilas Patil from 1980 to 2014 and from 2014 to 2019, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan of the Congress. The constituency has been known as a Congress bastion for several decades which the BJP hopes to change this time. BJP's candidate is Atul Bhosle, who is not a novice in the constituency. Bhosle, whose family runs a sugar factory and a medical college, has contested twice against Chavan since 2014. While Bhosle lost both times, the BJP and Bhosle have been taking confidence from Chavan's declining winning margins and Bhosle's improved performance. In 2014, Chavan got 76,831 votes and won by just 16,000 votes, Bhosle came a distant third. The 2014 elections were interesting as Vilas Patil, the Congress sitting MLA, was denied a ticket in favour of Chavan. The latter contested as an independent and got 60,000 votes.

Thomas E. Kurtz, creator of BASIC computer language, dies at 96
Dartmouth College and an inventor of the simplified computer programming language known as BASIC, which allowed students to easily operate early computers and eventually propelled generations into the world of personal computing, died Tuesday in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He was 96. The cause of his death, in a hospice, was multiple organ failure from sepsis, said Agnes Kurtz, his wife. In the early 1960s, before the days of laptops and smartphones, a computer was the size of a small car and an institution like Dartmouth, where Kurtz taught, had just one. Programming one was the province of scientists and mathematicians, specialists who understood the nonintuitive commands used to manipulate data through the hulking machines, which processed data in large batches, an effort that sometimes took days or weeks to complete.

Shomie Das, who was successively principal of three well-known boarding schools, Mayo College, Lawrence School, Sanawar, and The Doon School from 1969-95, had radically unconventional ideas about education, gleaned from German and Austrian educationists and the product of his own innate liberalism and innovativeness. His ideas about education have a relevance well beyond the three posh schools he headed because they were contrary to the priorities of Indian education, then and now.

The new driving force of identity politics is class, not race
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. New fault lines are emerging in American society based more on class than race. The shift helped deliver the White House to Donald Trump and could continue to alter the political landscape if more Americans identify themselves less in the context of race and gender and more as belonging to a certain economic class.
