In May, the consumer price index-based inflation eased to 4.25% from 4.70% in April. Cereals and pulses inflation, however, were high at 12.7% and 6.6%, respectively.

A three-year low carryover stock of 50,000-60,000 tonnes has further pressurised the supply. “Unseasonal rains in March have affected the production of jeera adversely,” said Arvind Patel, vice president of the Unjha mandi.
